Jesus was weary. What did He do?

Continuing a thought...
Wednesday I have been reading a blog about being an intentional homemaker. It is such a blessing and challenge each week. I have thinking about this last lesson and challenge much of this week. I wrote on it earlier. It was on me time. On thinking we deserve time of our own.
You can find that blog HERE
Recently I was sharing my findings with a group of ladies. We were driving back from a ladies meeting about an hour away. One of the ladies challenged me by saying that we still needed to take care of ourselves. We can not run ragged and do everything for everyone else. She said that if we do we are no use to our family, so it is important to have a little me time.
When I got home I began thinking about that. Was she right. Did we need me time to take care of ourselves. Maybe, I thought, I was wrong to think it was selfish if it is being used to give us the rest we need. As I thought about it I prayed that the Lord would show me an unselfish answer. It was through Jesus' example that I believe I understand.
Jesus was often weary. People followed Him all day and night. He was consistently taking care of the needs of other people (sounds familiar as a mother), and not to mention trying to keep the disciples in line, also. When He did take time to Himself we always find Him alone praying to God. Jesus didn't go for a swim, go to the shops, get a back rub, or go to lunch. So, in one way yes, we need to take care of ourselves by getting away for a short time, but that time should be used to refocus our lives on Jesus Christ.
I am not saying that going for a swim, going shopping, getting a back rub, or going to lunch is wrong, but using the excuses that it is so that we can take care of ourselves is not a good enough for me. The refreshing I need comes from God. I am also not saying that I will not go out with the girls to fellowship, but I will not be going because I deserve time away from my family so I can be a better mom. All the refreshing I need to continue to do the things God has called me to do comes from God Himself.
My example is Jesus Christ. If He worked and labored and got His refreshment from spending time with God, then that is what I should do.
I challenge you to also allow God to give you the refreshing that you need. Allow Him to supply all your needs, including the rest you need.
Thanks for that reminder!
